Tips on Caring for Your Contact Lenses and Contact Lens Cases
City of Vision Eyecare optometrists recognize that taking care of your contact lenses can be a chore. We’ve come up with this comprehensive guide to help prolong the life of your contact lenses.Contact Lens Insertion

Step 1:
Wash your hands thoroughly using soap and water. Dry with a lint-free towel.

Step 2:
Check the contact to make sure it is facing the right direction, and that it is not ripped or torn.

Step 3:
Place the contact on the index finger of your dominant hand. Use your other hand to lift the top lid, then use your middle finger on your dominant hand to pull down the lower lid.

Step 4:
Steadily move the contact lens toward your eye. Tilt your chin down and look up as you place the lens on the lower white part of your eye. Slide the lens up towards the center of your eye, then look straight ahead. Finally, slowly release the lens and blink for a moment.
Contact Lens Removal

Step 1:
Wash your hands thoroughly using soap and water. Dry with a lint-free towel.

Step 2:
Slide the lens down by looking up and bringing the index finger of your dominant hand to the bottom edge of the lens and sliding it to the lower white part of your eye. (Grasp the lids as you did during lens insertion)

Step 3:
Gently pinch the lens off of your eye using the thumb and index finger of your dominant hand. Once the lens is safely removed, you can release your lids.

Step 4:
Store your contacts properly in a case with disinfecting solution if they are bi-weekly or monthly. Daily lenses should be disposed of after removal.
